Can you deal with a clogged drain

Clogged drains happen to everyone, and they are not fun. The toilet, sink, bath or shower might fill up with water if the drainpipe is totally clogged. In such a situation, the blockage should be removed immediately however it is not very easy to do so with the household methods. If you get a professional plumber to do the job, it will take a great deal of money from your bank account. The money that the plumber would charge depends on the extent of blockage, higher the blockage, the higher would be the cost. It is only after encountering a situation like multiple drain blockages at home that you realise the importance of regular drain inspections and a maintenance program.

Why do drains get blocked?.

Carelessness is the prime cause of clogged drains. Kitchen sink drain clogs can take place when you don’t use the drain strainer to catch particles of food and rubbish from falling through the drain into the pipes. Accumulation of these particles can lead to drain clogs. Cooking oils and grease aggravate potential clogs by lining the pipes. Excessive flushing of large amounts of toilet paper can be responsible for clogging in the toilet.

Tossing waste items not meant to be flushed down the toilet also worsens the situation. A blockage can be caused instantly or over a period of time by objects like sanitary products, baby-wipes and paper towels. Bathroom sinks, showers and bathtubs can become clogged when hair gets caught in the pipes and builds up. Items such as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste, hair gel further complicate the blockage problem as they accumulate over time.

It is unfortunately the case that clogs can be caused by problems completely unrelated to what is put into your drains. Scale, tree roots, deterioration of pipes that are rusted and crushed drain lines have also been known to cause plumbing problems.

Solutions for Drain Clogging.

You can use certain acids and chemicals which are especially meant for clearing the clogged drains. These chemicals, however, can actually be harmful to your pipes, your fixtures, your health and the environment. But the good news is that you can clear the blocked drains in a natural way too. For example, one method is to frequently run very hot water down the drains. Baking soda and vinegar is an alternative measure. Pour vinegar on the clogged drain and sprinkle baking soda over it. Allow this combination to stay in the pipe for a minimum of 15 minutes, after which you can run hot water to cleanse the mixture away, if you are fortunate your blockage will also be removed if lucky.

It Is Better To Examine and Prevent.

The home plumbing system can be compared to an automobile, a machine or a tool. A periodic checkup and maintenance schedule can keep your drains running smoothly. You can take the initiative and inspect the drains yourself as you are most familiar with the way your drains work. You must have all your household drains regularly inspected by a qualified plumber to truly avoid the inconvenience and expense of serious drain blockages. It is advisable to have a plumber “snake” all of your drainpipes at least roughly once a year, as a means of preventing blockages. If the problems persist and your drain blockages are more chronic, get the drainage snaked more often. You can also use a video inspection service for the major pipelines regularly.

Regular expert inspection of your drainage system can ensure that your pipes (and not your pockets) are completely drained and cleaned out!.
