How can I clean my lav sink overflow drains which are plugged , hold water and no wire can make them flow?
My bathroom lav sinks have overflow drains which are plugged between the opening hole and the sink drain itself. We’ve tried to ram various things into these overflow drains to clean them out, but they still hold water when it’s poured into them. We’ve also tried H2O2 and Bio Clean with no results. When we let these dry out there is a strong, foul odor which comes out of them.
What can we pour into these overflows to dissolve the buildup inside the sink cavity?
We had that problem the other day here and I went to the store bought drano, I poured the whole half gallon into sink and let hot water ran for a couple of minutes and all clear, you may want to try that..?
You may want to consider the possibility that a mouse somehow may have gotten in and not out…….
I am not familiar with these products that you have mentioned. I assume that they are acid-base to or enzyme based. Thus the skunk like smell. Because water flows downhill more than likely the plug is more near to the drain holes that are inside the main drain area. Just below your pop up. That’s where I’d use your coat hanger or I’ve also used a set of doctors forceps
Wow….that’s tough…..I know what you are talking about…..its the overflow of the sink itself ……not the drain right? I’ve never heard of those stopping up…..I’m a licensed plumber and youve just stumped me……continue with the hanger or wire until you get it clear that’s about the best thing I could tell you! good luck
Try pouring a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide into the overflow hole.
pour bleach or liquid Drano directly down the overflow. it will kill any mold/fungus/slime that is growing in there. let it sit for a couple of hours and then pour HOT water in the overflow. be careful.
