Obstructed Drains will make you anoyed

Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A plugged drainpipe sounds horrible to begin with. Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Dealing with blocked drains is all together an unpleasant experience because it is complicated and unsanitary. However, most household bathrooms will experience a clogged drain at some time and one time or another. The best way to manage plugged bathroom drainage is to learn how to unclog them.

What Causes stopped drains in your home?.

Blocked drainage can result from trapped solid objects such as hair, dust and particles between your bathroom drainpipe and the attached pipes. The problem aggravates when bathroom products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, detergent, and the like begin to accumulate on the mass. When the offending mass becomes too dense to allow any water to flow through freely, the problem is identified as a clogged drain pipe. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drain pipe, you may already have a plumbing blockage on your hands.

How to unclog Your drains.

Time to roll up your sleeves and tackle the blockage – here are a few tips on what you can do to unclog your bath or sink drain pipe. Whether you are working with a sink or a bathtub drainpipe, the first step to take is to remove the stopper. You can easily remove the plug by pulling it off from the bathroom sink, however if it’s fixed under the sink then you need to unscrew the nuts. In the case of a bathtub, an overflow plate may have to be detached so that the entire assembly can be opened up, or there may be provision to unscrew the plug at the drain pipe itself.

Once you remove the stopper, you may then be able to see the source of the clog. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drain pipe. Clear out as much of the stoppage as possible. If the mass is located in a region, where it is difficult for you to grasp it and pull it out, then use a wire clothes hanger to dig into the clump and pull it back through the drain pipe. Clearing out the hair, soap scum and particles could very well take care of the problem for you.

If you need to disassemble the drainpipe and notice that the blockage is not even within reach of a wire hanger, you will have to try another method. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated clogs is a drain plunger. Begin by covering the overflow drain with a wet towel so as to create a stronger suction from the plunger. Now, place the plunger straight away on the opening of the drainpipe, and thump it up and down a number of times. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drain as the vacuum created shifted the obstruction.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drainpipe clearing product. It should be noted that chemical drain pipe cleaners should only be used as a final solution as the chemical substances are harmful and could damage your bathroom fixtures and sanitary fittings.

If all the steps outlined above fail to clear the choked drainpipe, then it is best to call in a crack team – a qualified and experienced plumber or drains contractor from your area.
