One of the most treacherous consequences of a plumbing system obstruction is drainage backflow.

You might think of ringing your plumber if sewage is backing into your shower, toilets or bath tub. Decomposing matter in drainage is extremely harmful to health and has to be rapidly sanitised by clearing the blockage and disinfecting the area.

As you wait for the plumbers to reach your location, start sanitising the affected area with a mixture of bleaching agent and water with a ratio of one cup to five Imperial gallons respectively. Wear eye protection, long trousers, gloves and boots and seal the area to prevent entry by children, the aging and pets. Remember to exhaustively wash your hands with soap after you are done with the cleaning up. You can help keep drainage from backing up into your home by limiting the amount of water going down the drain.

As an underlying cause, the waste line could be blocked or there may be a stoppage between the shower and the toilet. However, the most significant thing to think about is saving your family from treacherous waste.

Diarrhea, high temperatures, stomach pains, chills and vomiting are some of the common symptoms of being exposed to raw sewage. If you recognise any of these symptoms in yourself, get medical treatment right away.

All objects polluted by the sewage, including kids’s play items, should be disinfected by mixing one cup of odorless household bleaching agent for every five Imperial gallons of water. contaminated food items should be thrown away immediately, also throw those items that cannot be cleaned like mattresses, baby toys, stuffed animals etc.

You can use a plumbers snake if the sewerage back up is in shower area. A plumbing snake that is a quarter inch thick and twenty five feet long will be the best choice. It will move more easily through the line. It is quite common to find out that while the shower trap is backed up the toilet in the same bathroom is not. That is likely to happen because the shower drain is at flooring level, whereas the toilet trap is located about 6 inches higher.

If you are unable to clear this backup yourself, you must call in professional plumbers. A plumber will not only be able to clean up the mess that the leaked drainage created for you but also locate where the blockage is. In fact it is always better to take professional help especially when you don’t know much about plumbing as you could damage your drainpipes if you start poking about inside them with home made tools.
