What could be more nerve-racking than a obstructed drain!.

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A clogged up drain pipe sounds horrible to begin with. You are hurriedly brushing your teeth, and before you can even blink your eyes, the sink is brimming over with water. Everyone hates clogged up drainage because they not only create problems but are also unhygienic and can create a mess. However, most household bathrooms will experience a stopped drainpipe at some time and one time or another. But there are ways to unblock bathroom drainage easily and can make this unenviable job a lot easier.

Why Do They Happen?.

They get clogged up when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drain pipe. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely obstructed. If you notice water getting accumulated in your tub or sink, you definitely have stopped drainage.

How to remove the drainpipe blockage.

You can do a number of things to unblock your bathtub or bathroom sink drainpipe. First of all the stopper should be removed. You can easily remove the stopper by pulling it off from the bathroom sink, however if it’s fixed under the sink then you need to unscrew the nuts. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the stopper right at the drain pipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.

The removal of the plug may allow you to spot the cause for the blockage. It will most certainly appear like a collection of hair and other particles covered with slimy material inside the drain pipe’s piping. Try to get as much of this out as possible by hand, this could solve the drains problem. You may find it difficult to get at the blockage, in which case you could use something like a wire hanger to fish the material out. Removing the hair, detergent residues and the rest of the material will surely solve your problem.

If, after exposing the drain, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. clogs which are very deep can be removed with the help of a drainpipe plunger. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drain, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Then, put the plunger over the drain pipe and push up and down half a dozen times. As soon as you release the plunger, the trapped water may drain away immediately.

You can unclog the drainage through chemical drain cleaner too if a drainage plunger does not work for you. The chemicals have the potential to harm your bathroom fixtures, and they are dangerous too; for this reason, they should be used only when all the above methods fail to unblock your drain pipe.

Call a professional plumber if all else fails.

If all the steps outlined above fail to clear the clogged up drain, then it is best to call in a crack team – a qualified and experienced plumber or drains contractor from your area. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. Taking professional help will cost you a bit but it is definitely worth it.
